Dixon disembarked at Suez with the 16th Bn. He was transferred to Alexandria, joined the MEF and proceeded to the Gallipoli Peninsula 12.4 1915. He was promoted to Lance Corporal in the 16th Battalion. Dixon  fought with his Battalion at Quinn's Post. On May 9th the Turkish made an unsuccessful attack and the 16th Bn were sent in to support the 15th Bn. (Anzacsite.gov.au.landings 16th Bn). Dixon was wounded in this action at Gallipoli with a GSW to his right forearm 9.5.1915. (Reported West Australian Newspaper). He was admitted to the Hospital Ship ‘Gloucester Castle’ and transferred to the No 1 General Hospital at Heliopolis 9.5.1915. Dixon was transferred to the Helouan Convalescent Camp 15.5.1915. He was declared fit for duty 24.5.1915, however, developed an acute appendicitis 26.5.1917 and was transferred to the 1st General Hospital 30.5.1915. He returned to his unit at Gallipoli from hospital 22.6.1915. Dixon was transferred to an overseas base at Mustafa from 23.8.1915-14.9.1915. He embarked per HMAT ‘Megantic’ to join his Battalion in Gallipoli 4.9.1915. Dixon was admitted sick to the HS ‘Lan Franc’ with frostbite 17.12.1915. He was transferred to No. 2 Auxiliary Hospital at Heliopolis 24.12.1915 and then to Zietoun, where he joined his Unit 5.2.1916. Dixon was transferred to Alexandria and joined the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) 1.6.1916. He embarked for France per HMT ‘Canada’ and disembarked at Marseilles, France 9.6.1916. The 16th Bn. fought at Mouquet Farm in France, where Dixon sustained a sprained ankle/ wounded in the trenches 10.8.1916 (2nd time wounded). He rejoined his unit 11.9.1916 and fought through the winter in appalling conditions in the trenches. In September 1917, Dixon was hospitalised sick 25.7.1917. He again sprained his ankle at Polygon Wood 13.9.1917 (3rd time wounded) and was treated at the Canadian General Hospital in Etaples 16.9.1917. Dixon was invalided to England and admitted to the Reading Hospital 25.9.1917. After a period of convalescence, he joined a Training Bde. at Deverill in England. Dixon proceeded overseas to France 20.12.1917 and rejoined his unit 31.12.1917. Dixon fought in the trenches through winter of 1917-1918.
Dixon was KIA in field at the Battle of Amiens on 8.7.1918. He was killed by enemy rifle fire at an outpost. Dixon’s body was recovered 8.8.1918 and buried at the outpost, the site being marked with a cross, in front of Vaire and Hamel Woods. His remains were exhumed and re interred at the Crucifix Corner Cemetery, Villers-Bretonneux and Hangard Communal Cemetery Extn., Picardie, France.
