Military History

Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Argyllshire’ A8 for UK 9.11.1916.
Roll Rank 2nd Lieut.
Roll Unit 51st Battalion, 7th Reinf.
Read disembarked at Devonport, England with the 51st Bn. 10.1.1917. He marched in to the 15th Training Bn. at Codford 10.1.1917. Read was sent to NCO School at Kandahar Barracks 4.2.1917. He transferred to the 67th Bn. 8.5.1917 as 2nd Lieut. He was sent to Messing School at Weymouth 5.8.1917. Read was promoted to Lieut 7.8.1917. He transferred back to the 51st Bn. 15.9.1917. Read proceeded overseas to France with 51st Bn. 2.12.1917. He was admitted to Hospital sick with tachycardia in France 8.3.1918. Read was invalided to the Regt. Seconded List. Read embarked for England per H.S. ‘Pieter de Cormick’ 15.3.1918. He was transferred to Cobham Hall 28.3.1918. He embarked from England per ‘Dunluce Castle’ for Suez with a debility, arteritis and myocarditis 8.4.1918. At Suez he was transferred to HS ‘Karoola’ for his return to Australia.
Embarked for Australia from Suez per H.S. ‘Karoola’ 27.4.1918.
Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 20.5.1918.
Discharged/ Appointment terminated 2.6.1916.
Final Rank Lieut., 51st Bn AIF.
Medical Condition Invalided myocarditis, debility and arteritis.
